Kydex Holsters vs Leather Holsters – Which One is Best?

Leather HolsterLeather Holsters

Leather has been the primary method of carrying a firearm since the dawn of firearms. From a pirate’s brace of pistols to the holster of the cowboy, leather has dominated. Leather has been utilized throughout the decades as the go to material for holsters.

Leather has been spun into every kind of holster imaginable, from belt to ankle and up to the shoulder holster. Every branch of law enforcement has some form of leather holster from the local Sheriff’s departments to the FBI; leather is everywhere.

The phrase clearing leather, meaning to draw your weapon, is applied universally no matter what material your holster has actually cleared. There is reason for this.

Leather is easy to mold, is extremely tough, while remaining lightweight. Leather can be molded easily to a custom fit for firearms. Leather is tough to break and tear, and is lightweight, hardly adding any weight to the task of carrying a gun.

Best Holsters for Women

Womens Concealed Carry HolstersWomen’s Holsters – Best Gun Holsters for Women

Studies show that women are the largest growing demographic of people applying and being granted concealed carry permits, not at the same level of men, but consistently the number has been steadily growing. In years past, women have had trouble carrying because holsters, until recently, were designed primarily by men for men, with hardly any unisex options and rarely any female specific options.

Fortunately a little brand called Flashbang has arrived and most people of the gun have heard of them through their interesting bra holster, but most do not know Flashbang also produces a variety of awesome holsters for more traditional carry.

There are also a few options out there for women away from Flashpoint that fall into more unisex options. These options may simply not be known or considered, but do make awesome options for women, and are capable of conforming to both their body types and styles.

Benefits of Buying a Suppressor (aka Silencer)

Guns with SuppressorsHistory of Silencers

Silencers were invented by Hiram Maxim, the son of a U.S. inventor.

His father, Hiram Stevens Maxim, invented the first machine gun that was fully automatic. Maxim was a mechanical engineer and MIT grad.

Hiram P. MaximLoving the outdoors and hunting, in 1908 Maxim came up with the idea of the silencer and created the Maxim Silencer Company.

At the time, the silencer he created was sold for just above $3.00 per unit! It was pretty effective as well, not much different than the modern silencers of today.

Although silencer has been used quite often, especially as a result of many modern movies, the correct term is (or was) actually suppressor.

Everything About Gun Holsters

Western Gun HolsterHistory of the Gun Holster

The history of the gun holster differs a bit, depending on who you ask or what sources you reference. Gun holsters and gun leather in the United States began in the 1800’s, as more and more people settled out west.

The weather and conditions were a bit different that established towns back east, so saddle makers realized the need for and first developed the western gun holster and gun belts.

Many militaries were already using leather holsters to hold their guns, but it didn’t become prevalent among everyday citizens until the mid 19th century.

Western Gun HolsterThe leather makers and saddleries found making gun holsters, primarily belt holsters, a good way to earn extra money in producing gun holsters, gun belts, and ammo pouches.

What Kind of Gun or Weapon Should I Buy?

Guns and Weapons of all kinds have existed for many centuries, and for many centuries have been evolving. You may be new to the gun scene, or you maybe an old pro, but the weapons available seem to be part of an ever expanding, and at times, confusing sea of guns and weapons which need some sorting out.

There are self defense, home defense, and military weapons; shotguns, rifles, and handguns. But which rifle, which shotgun, which handgun do you choose?

It depends on who you are and what the intended expectations for using the weapon are…  Is the gun for self defense?  Is the gun for Home Defense?  Do you plan of using it in your vehicle?  Is it a long range tool meant for deterring closer conflict?  Will you use it for concealed carry?  Is its primary usage for hunting or range shooting or fun, instead of protection?

Before these questions get an answer, you should explore the main varieties of guns and weapons:

Selecting a Gun Holster Part 1

A gun holster is a gun’s best friend if you carry your weapon on a regular basis.

Gun holsters protect your handgun from the elements, wear and tear, and accidental discharge, while at the same time providing ready access to it. If you own a handgun, a gun holster is essential to maximize gun safety. Not having one greatly increases the risk of accidental discharge, which is never a good scenario and can be easily prevented by using one.

Why Firearm Training & Self Defense Training is a Must

Female Shooter Training

Female Shooter Training

There are several reasons people buy firearms, namely for self defense, hunting, and shooting sports (although not necessarily in that order). Today we will address self-defense. There is a wide range of experience levels of those who shoot, ranging from I just shot a gun for the first time , to I’ve been shooting all my life.

Whether you’re in the former category, or the latter, it never hurts to practice on a regular basis, as the only way to really master something is by repetition.

If you want to get better at shooting (or anything else for that matter), it takes practice, practice, practice. Especially in regards to self-defense, a handgun or rifle is not going to be much use to you in an emergency if you’re not fully confident of how to use it or if you can’t hit anything with it.

Even for the experts who deal with emergencies every day, they will tell you an emergency situation requires significant training to handle properly. When you have significant training, you don’t have to think about acting, you fall back on your training and know instinctively how to respond.

Effective Weapons for Self Defense – Mace & Stun Guns

Sabre Stun Gun

Sabre Stun Gun

There are many weapons on the market nowadays that can help you defend yourself that are both tactically effective and cost effective. Our philosophy is, there is really no reason NOT to have some type of tool/weapon on you just in case something were to happen.

I’m sure all of us can mentally fill in the blank on what something could mean. My personal definition of something is when anyone approaches me with the intent, or threat, of causing me bodily harm.

With technological improvements to self defense products over the years, these weapons are now, for the most part, very small and affordable, and easy companions for your pocket, purse, car or backpack. Although obviously not as effective as a firearm would be, non-lethal defense tools & weapons can still be quite effective and definitely give you a big advantage over not having anything with you at all.

Self Defense Knives/Tactical Knives

Tactical Knives

Tactical Knives

Tactical Knives can be very effective self defense tools. While not as advantageous as having a firearm, a knife can definitely improve your odds against an attacker vs. simply having just your bare hands (unless you are Bruce Lee, of course).

Even if you have no self defense training, a knife is both easy to carry on your person and easy to use.

Here are a few of the many reasons a tactical knife might work for you:

1. You are in a city where firearms are prohibited and you want a tool to be able to defend yourself if necessary.

2. You don’t have a concealed carry (CCW) permit and want a tool to be able to defend yourself if necessary.

3. You use a knife on a regular basis anyway but want one that is functional both as a tool and for self defense purposes.

4. You do not keep firearms in your home but want a self defense tool to defend yourself if necessary.
