Review of the Cantamount Fury

Cantamount FurySo there I was neck deep in impatience. I’ve been trying to get my hands on a Yugo Pap AK pistol with the SB 47 for weeks now. My local gun store said he was trying to get them in and to check back regularly.

So anyway, I was in his store letting him say sorry they haven’t come in yet for the last time. I say for the last time because he was unboxing what I thought was a Saiga 12.

I’m generally right about certain things, but once in a blue moon I am wrong. He brought out a Chinese clone called the Cantamount Fury. Like a lot of things in his store he let me paw over it with no real intention to buy it since I’m a shooter on a budget. As you can picture, it’s an AK style shotgun, chambered in twelve gauge, and resembles an unconverted Saiga 12.

Review of the Diamondback DB9 – Best Holsters for the DB9

Diamondback DB9Diamondback as a company has been producing a variety of different tools for years, and only recently have they entered the firearm world. They, like most successful firearm companies entered with not a splash but a bang. Diamond back entered the firearms world producing the world’s smallest 9mm semi-automatic pistol.

The Diamondback DB 9 is a true pocket pistol and can be easily hidden on anyone regardless of size. This makes it a very attractive weapon for small framed individuals, especially petite women.

The DB9 bills itself as the ultimate concealed carry weapon, but is it reliable? Is it practical? Controllable? And does it perform well enough to trust your life too? Anytime a new gun comes from a new company it needs to scrutinized, especially when it’s billing itself for daily carry and self-defense.

Review of the Bersa .380 – Best Holsters for the Bersa .380

Bersa .380The Bersa .380 has caught fire in the American market as an excellent concealed carry handgun. The Bersa 380 is a copy of the famed Walther PP, PPK, and PPK/S pistol series of pistol made famous by James Bond. The Bersa 380s are almost direct clones, but retain their own small touches on improving the Walther design.

Overview of the Bersa .380

The Bersa 380 is a small and capable pistol chambered in the ever growing and ever popular 380 acp cartridge. The Bersa 380 is a single stack handgun that comes with one seven round magazine. The weapon is incredibly thin and very light weight. This aids greatly in effectively concealing a weapon, especially for those of smaller statue.

When it comes to carrying the Bersa 380, the gun just disappears. The light weight makes it disappear and the thin profile keeps it extremely comfortable for all day carry. You can basically forget it’s there while you’re carrying it. The Bersa is very easy to pocket carry with the proper holster like the Blackhawk or Bulldog pocket Holsters.

Product Review – The USP Compact

H&K USP CompactThe Heckler and Koch USP or Universal Self Loading Pistol, is one of H&Ks most popular pistols. The USP has been in service with the Germany army for some time as the P8 and has served them without complaint. The H&K USP has proven to be a major player in the polymer handgun market here in the U.S. with a number of SWAT teams adopting the weapon.

USP Compact vs USP

The USP compact is not much different from the USP, just a bit smaller. The USP Compact comes chambered in 9mm, 40 S&W, 45 ACP, and the compact is the only USP chambered in 357 Sig. The USP Compact is a double action single action weapon, but there are LEM models which is a light double action only trigger group.

The safety and decocking mechanism can be customized to the users’ choice, including right hand or left configurations. These variations can be range from decocker only, to safety only or decocker and safety. The USP Compact can be outfitted with a variety of different accessories from H&K including night sights, lasers and flashlights.

Taurus Judge Product Review – Best Gun Holsters for the Taurus Judge

Taurus JudgeReview of the Taurus Judge

The Taurus Judge arrived on the scene as the boringly named 4510 revolver. In 2006 Taurus made a brilliant marketing move after discovering a number of South Florida judges were carrying the 4510 as a means of defense inside the courtroom.

After discovering this, Taurus’ marketing team must have thrown their hands in the air and yelled Hallelujah. The weapon was rebranded as the Taurus Judge. Since then the weapon has exploded in popularity and the Taurus Judge has spawned a variety of different models. From the revolving carbine and laver action carbine models to the polymer public defender, the Field Judge, and the Raging Judge Magnum, the Judge is everywhere.

What makes the Judge so unique is its ability to fire .45 Colt and .410 shot shells. Traditionally shotguns aren’t revolvers, and they definitely aren’t pistols. So the Judge was seen as quite the novel concept. First off the judge is a big revolver with a cylinder near the same size as the standard 3 inch barrel, and in the case of the 3 inch chambering the cylinder is the same length as the barrel.

Glock 29 Review – Best Holsters for the Glock 29

Glock 29Review of Glock 29

The Glock 29 came to be in the early 90s shortly after the premier of the 10 mm round. The 10 mm round itself is somewhat obscure to modern gunners.

The 10 mm reached its peak in popularity when the FBI adopted it as their standard round, and Miami Vice began to feature the ill fated Bren Ten. The 10 mm was brushed aside with the advent of the 40 S&W, but still has a devoted and cult following.

The Glock 29 is supposed to be a sub compact 10 mm variant to be used as a back-up weapon for law enforcement and a concealed carry firearm for civilians.

The Glock 29 is much larger and heavier than the traditional baby Glock like the Glock 26 and 27. The Glock 29 falls in the middle of the Glock compact models like the 19 and the glock subcompacts like the 26.

The Glock 29 holds ten rounds of 10mm and is capable of accepting 15 round Glock magazines. The grip is rather smallish and a pinky can just barely hang on to it.

The main complaint I have about the Glock 29 is the grip. If it was a hair longer it would have been much more comfortable to fire such a powerful round. A Pearce pinky extension works wonders though.

Walther P99

Walther P99 James BondWalther is a legendary company that has been producing weapons for more than half a century. They developed the famed Walther PP, PPK and PPK/S that filled the hands of decade’s worth of police, concealed carriers, and of course James Bond.

Walther has always kept up with modern trends and has produced some of the most famous and most infamous pistols in the world. They supply a large amount of European police forces with their service pistols.

Walther P99

Walther P99

Overview of the P99

The Walther P99 is Walther’s entry into the modern polymer pistol market. The P99 was intended to replace the aging Walther P5 and Walther P88 still in use by police forces. Walther set out to design a polymer frame pistol to cut production cost and cut weight in a full sized pistol.

The Walther P99 was designed on the familiar double action and single action that Walther made famous with the PP series of pistols. The main difference being the lack of a hammer and the use of a DA / SA striker fired system. This DA / SA function allows the weapon to have a double strike capability, something not present on pistols like Glocks.

Top Soft Rifle Cases

Bulldog Ultra Compact Case AR15

Bulldog Ultra Compact Case AR15

Soft rifle cases tend to be more compact and easier to tote when shock and impact protection isn’t the largest worry. These soft cases are much less bulky and often lighter weight.

A soft case offers weather and scratch protection and is more adaptable to fit in tight places. Here are our top 10 choices:

BullDog Ultra Compact Case

Bulldog soft rifle case is just that, a soft rifle case. It is not decked out in tactical pouches or webbing, and it doesn’t come in a super tactical camouflage pattern. It’s a very simple and light design for carrying a rifle.

The case is of very high quality materials, water resistant, and comes in blue and silver. The case is perfect for someone wanting to get away from the tactical look and back to a simpler time.

Best Handgun Soft Cases to Purchase

Blackhawk Gun Rug Pistol Pouch

Blackhawk Gun Rug Pistol Pouch

Pistol soft cases are a lightweight and less bulky solution to pistol protection. Soft pistol cases come in a multitude of different sizes and designs. They offer protection from the elements and keep your finish protected.

Soft cases cut down on a lot of bulk which allows you to pack half a dozen soft pistol cases in a range bag. Hard pistol cases would only allow you pack half that many pistols. The same goes for safes; it’s much easier to store a larger amount of handguns safely in soft cases.

Blackhawk Gun Rug – Medium

Blackhawk is one of my favorite companies out there. They produce a wide variety of range bags, holsters, slings, and damn near everything else for guns. This soft case functions as an easy to use handgun tote.

The material is strong and tough, and is also water resistant. The case has elastic strips built into it for holding magazines, and a soft divider to keep your weapon separated from the magazines and any other gear you are carrying.

Top Ten Rifle Stocks to Consider

Archangel 10 22 ARS Nomad Stock

Archangel 10 22 ARS Nomad Stock

Customizing your weapon is one of the most fun parts of owning one. Tons of companies out there produce quality modifications that allow the end user to change almost anything on their weapon for their specific size, weight, or ergonomic style. These days, gun owners have as many options to customize as car owners do.

Archangel Nomad 10/22 stock

The Ruger 10/22 was probably one of the first weapons to become both heavily and easily customizable. Most modifications are simple drop in products that require nothing more than basic hand tools.

The Nomad is a dress up kit that allows you to convert your stock Ruger 10/22 into a H&K G36 replica. The kit ups the cool level on your rifle to a 10.

Kbar BK3 Becker Tactical Tool

Fixed Blade knives are the fighting knives, the trench knives, the hammer, and sometimes the shovel of the United States infantryman.

A good fixed blade knife is rarely used for combat these days, but is called upon as a tool daily. There are a lot of fixed blades out there, but are our top choices:

KBar Fighting Knife 7 Inches

KBar Fighting Knife 7 Inches

One of the longest serving knives in the world, the K-Bar was made famous by the Marines in the Pacific theatre of World War 2. When it comes to selecting the proper tools for every day carry (aka EDC), a lot of things come in to play. Need, environment, comfort, and style of dress are some.

One of the most important choices you could make is what knife you want to carry. The most common choice for EDC is a good folding knife, due to its small size and convenience of carry.

The knife you select will be an everyday companion and must be tough, sharp, and reliable. Individuals will have different preferences, and different needs, but here’s our list of the top ten folding knives.

The Cold Steel Code 4 is on the larger scale of folding pocket knives, and was the product of specific requests from our nation’s law enforcement officers.
